Press Release - Statement on CNU and Rancho Cordova Announcement

Officials from the City of Rancho Cordova and California Northstate University (CNU)today announcedthey are in discussions on locating a teaching hospital in the City of Rancho Cordova.

CNU opened their Elk Grove campus on the city's west side in 2014. In 2015, the college became only the ninth accredited medical school in California and only the fifth university in the State to operate both a pharmacy school and medical school under one roof. Today, the university also offers schools of psychology, dentistry, health sciences, and graduate studies.

This announcement may well conclude the review process for the CNU Medical Center Project originally proposed for Elk Grove in December 2018. This project was reviewed by the Elk Grove Planning Commission on February 18, 2021, who recommended its denial. At CNU's request, this project has not been presented to the Elk Grove City Council for a final determination.

"This is an important project for the Sacramento region and we wish California Northstate University much success in establishing their teaching hospital in the area," said Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen. "We appreciate their continued investment in our community and we are committed to continuing to work with the university to bring great projects to Elk Grove. As the economy continues to reopen, many are looking at Elk Grove as the ideal place to do business and we will work diligently to assist all those committed to their success and the well-being of our community."
