Workshops Support Next Phase in the City’s General Plan Update

The City of Elk Grove will host two online workshops as part of the City’s General Plan update. The public is invited and encouraged to participate by visiting

About the Online Workshops

Transform Areas

What:  Topic based workshops held earlier this year focused on transportation and growth strategies. These sessions helped identify areas where land uses could change in the future (a.k.a. “transform areas”). This first online workshop seeks to refine the map and determine how Elk Grove should manage future growth. Input will be accepted through May 8.

When:             April 15–May 8, 2016

Land Use Alternatives

What:  Information gathered in the first online workshop will help us to identify land use alternatives that support the community’s vision. These alternatives will be presented for review and feedback through a second online workshop in June.

When:             June (exact time frame TBD)

Listening Sessions

As a supplement to the online workshops, staff will host listening sessions in May and June to provide opportunities to provide input and ask questions in person.

Where:            City Hall Council Chambers (8400 Laguna Palms Way)
When:             May 2, 2016, 6:00 pm, June date TBA

About the Project

The General Plan is a state-mandated document that addresses issues such as transportation, housing, open space, conservation, safety, and more. Elk Grove’s General Plan was originally adopted in 2003. A General Plan Update was launched in September 2015.  Completion is anticipated in 2017. A successful update will provide future leaders and residents with a clear, flexible, and fiscally viable plan that reflects and incorporates the community’s needs and priorities.
