Broadband

There are currently historic levels of broadband funding available from both the state and federal governments. To determine whether the City of Elk Grove should take advantage of this once-in-a-generation opportunity to invest in broadband infrastructure, City staff are conducting research to better understand the current state of broadband within the city.

As part of this effort, the City received a grant from the Tides Center and Connect Humanity to develop a Digital Access Report detailing digital equity, access, and affordability issues in Elk Grove. This Report provides data on digital access and affordability, resident sentiment on current services, outlines opportunities to improve broadband and includes feasibility and market analysis. The Report is intended to provide a high-level view of the current state of broadband access for Elk Grove residents and outline options for moving forward.

The report was presented and discussed at the September 13, 2023 City Council meeting.  The Council recommended to staff to move forward with a feasibility study on a Public-Private Partnership to improve broadband connectivity.
