During their May 11 regular meeting, the Elk Grove City Council approved an employment agreement with Jonathan P. Hobbs, Elk Grove’s contracted legal counsel, for an in-house City Attorney position.

Mr. Hobbs has served as Elk Grove City Attorney under an hourly contract with the law firm of Kronick, Moskovitz, Tiedemann & Girard (KMTG) since August of 2011. He served as Interim City Attorney in 2007, in addition to his roles as attorney for the Planning Commission and various City special projects over the years. Bringing the position in-house is expected to enhance legal services and reduce costs.

“Jon is a tremendous asset to the City,” said Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis. “As our contracted City Attorney he has provided timely, helpful, and extremely professional legal services to the Council and City management. This contract will allow Jon to fully focus on the issues that affect Elk Grove’s quality of life.”

Mr. Hobbs was admitted to the California Bar in December of 1996. He is a shareholder with KMTG, where he has worked for the past 17 years, specializing in the representation of local government agencies. His career has included providing legal counsel to the nearby cities of Lincoln, Folsom, Roseville, Galt, Rio Vista, and Lodi. Mr. Hobbs earned his juris doctor degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where he graduated with Great Distinction. He received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Washington State University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1993.

“I am honored and humbled that the City Council and management are further entrusting me with serving the City of Elk Grove as their in-house City Attorney.” said Mr. Hobbs. “As a City employee, I look forward to focusing my full time and attention on the needs and interests of the City.”

Mr. Hobbs’ employment agreement will take effect on July 1, 2016. Details of the agreement are available on the City’s web site at
