Green Gauntlet
New Team Fitness Competition Set to Push and Celebrate Local Athletes

The City of Elk Grove has thrown down the gauntlet…and it’s green!  Join the Elk Grove movement toward healthier living at the Green Gauntlet Fitness Challenge scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 5 at the Old Town Plaza (9615 Railroad Street) in Old Town Elk Grove from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Green Gauntlet is an all new one-day fitness competition for both novice and advance teams of 4 consisting of 2 men and 2 women. The challenge is open to anyone age 18 and older. And with the event being so close to St. Patrick’s Day, green gear is not only welcomed, but encouraged.

“Elk Grove has an abundance of gyms and businesses filled with residents that train hard and who are truly amazing athletes,” said City Events Coordinator, Jodie Moreno. “The Green Gauntlet is one of several events that the City will host this year that celebrates health and fitness and reinforces the City’s Join the Movement campaign encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle for all Elk Grove residents.”

The competition will consist of timed heats that will push participants to their limits in gymnastics, conditioning, and strength training movements with equipment that includes tires, stones and weights.

“The Green Gauntlet will be a true test of fitness”, said Corey McGuire, owner of Elk Grove Strength & Conditioning and Green Gauntlet fitness coordinator.  “Being great at one modality won’t necessarily get teams to the top of the leaderboard. Teams should come out ready to breathe hard and move some weight.”

The fun doesn’t stop on the workout mats. Spectators can cheer on the athletes, stroll through vendor lane, grab lunch or a snack from the food trucks, groove to the tunes of DJ Alazzawi, and play in the Republic Services Kids Zone.

Register your team online at before the event. The cost is $100 per team which includes a Green Gauntlet t-shirt for each team member and a chance to win inaugural bragging rights and the coveted Green Gauntlet medals. Parking and the other elements of the event are free to all ages.

The Green Gauntlet Fitness Challenge is presented by the City of Elk Grove in partnership with Elk Grove Strength and Conditioning. For more information, visit, follow the City of Elk Grove on Facebook or Twitter, or call Jodie Moreno at the City’s Public Affairs office at (916) 478-3632
