Press Release - Elk Grove’s Big Truck Day Event Goes Virtual!

Posted: 05/05/2020

Big Truck Day, traditionally an in-person event celebrating National Public Works Week in Elk Grove, will make its debut as a virtual event May 18-22. The change allows the spirit of the celebration to continue while complying with the County’s extended stay at home order. Big Truck Week will offer homeschoolers, specifically young students, an entire week of online fun.

Every day from Monday, May 18 through Friday, May 22, students can experience an up-close look at the vehicles and people maintaining the city through daily videos appearing on the City’s Facebook (City of Elk Grove-City Hall) and Instagram accounts. Students can continue their learning on the City’s website where they can download a daily activity, game, or craft project.

“Big Truck Day has always been an opportunity to connect with our littlest residents and teach them about what we do in Public Works. Even though our schools are closed and events are canceled, we can still use technology to offer some fun and online learning for our students,” said Elk Grove Public Works Director Bob Murdoch.

Parents are encouraged to sign up to receive email notifications during Big Truck Week for daily updates when new activities are available online.

National Public Works Week is celebrated annually by municipalities across the country. Its focus is to educate the public about the value and necessities of public works projects throughout our country.
