Press Release - Elk Grove Renamed “Reindeer Grove” this Saturday

For one day only, Elk Grove will become “Reindeer Grove” in honor of Santa’s visit to the 32nd annual Old Town Elk Grove Dickens Street Faire this Saturday, November 30.

The name change came at the request of St. Nick during his visit in 2018. According to the City Council’s proclamation, “an inviting name will send out an invitation to reindeer worldwide to consider visiting Elk Grove or “Reindeer Grove” for the holidays.”

“Santa saw a marketing angle in our name and, of course, elk and reindeer look a lot alike,” said Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly. “Changing our name for a day is a way to have some fun with our community and get our city into the holiday spirit.”

Elk Grove’s proclamation “encourages all resident elves, snow people, penguins, and members of our community, and communities across the country, to celebrate the holidays and light the way with red glowing noses.”

Mayor Ly will present the City Council’s proclamation to Santa and Mrs. Claus as part of the festivities associated with the Old Town Tree Lighting on Saturday night at 5:55 p.m.

In addition to the proclamation, the City’s social media platforms will be rebranded with the commemorative logo for the day.
