Press Release - City Arts Commission Announces Inaugural Art Awards

For the first time ever,
the City of Elk Grove Arts Commission will host an awards ceremony honoring the achievements of local artists and their supporters. The Iris Awards will be held on Friday, November 2, beginning at 5:30 pm at the Elk Grove Park Pavilion. This event is open to the public and free to attend.

The Iris Awards are named in tribute to the late Iris Zimbelman, co-founder of the Strauss Festival of Elk Grove. Iris was a lifelong supporter of music and arts in the Elk Grove community.

Community members receiving honors at the ceremony will include:

  • Bill McDonald - Literary Arts
  • Gary Mendoza - Performing Arts
  • Gerry Simpson - Visual Arts
  • Judy Tafoya - Patron of the Arts
  • Iris and Arnie Zimbelman - Lifetime Achievement Award
