City of Elk Grove offers resident pet owners free Rabies vaccines for World Rabies Day

Elk Grove, CA - Elk Grove Animal Services is partnering with Kittel Family Veterinary Practice on September 29, 2018 to celebrate World Rabies Day by offering 150 free rabies vaccines to pets of Elk Grove residents as well as free microchips and city pet licenses.

World Rabies Day is a global health observance started in 2007 to raise awareness about the burden of rabies and enhance prevention and control efforts worldwide.  Rabies is a contagious and fatal disease that pets can contract through contact with wildlife such as skunks, raccoons or bats.  The virus has no cure and can pass from animals to humans through a bite from an infected animal.

Elk Grove Animal Services wants to remind residents to help keep Rabies at bay by having their pets vaccinated annually against the deadly virus; proof of vaccination is also required to obtain or renew a city-required pet license.

The event will take place Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Kittel Family Veterinary Practice, 8153 Elk Grove Blvd Suite 30 from 9:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. The first 150 pets will receive free Rabies vaccines; pet owners must be Elk Grove residents to participate. Veterinary staff will administer vaccines to the first 150 Elk Grove pets. Elk Grove Animal Service staff will offer free microchipping for pets. Any residents who bring their pets to participate in World Rabies Day will be eligible to receive a free annual city pet license.

Elk Grove Animal Services performs animal control, animal cruelty investigations and pet licensing for the City of Elk Grove. Their service is scheduled to expand in 2019 to include sheltering and spay/neuter services for Elk Grove pets with the opening of the new animal shelter, which is currently under construction.
