Non-profit Organizations Serving Elk Grove Encouraged to apply for FY 2018-19 Funding

The online application period for three City grant programs supporting local non-profit organizations will open on Thursday, January 18 for funding allocated in FY 2018-19. Guidelines, instructions, and applications are available at

Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and Community Service Grants (CSG), administered through the Development Services Department will offer an estimated $485,000 for community service programs.

The CDBG program funds public service activities that benefit low-income Elk Grove residents. They can also assist nonprofits with facility improvements. The program is supported by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Since 2003, the City has used CDBG funds to support senior and youth programs, upgrade nonprofit facilities, run housing programs, and complete accessibility improvements throughout the City, among other activities.

The CSG program is a local grant program that funds a variety of activities serving Elk Grove residents. Funding from this program has provided senior meals and food for the Food Bank, staffing support for senior and youth programs, and other activities. Nonprofits can apply for up to $100,000.

A public meeting and technical assistance workshop for the CDBG and CSG grants will be held Tuesday, February 13 at 2:30 pm at Elk Grove City Hall, 8400 Laguna Palms Way. Community members are encouraged to attend the workshop and provide input on what programs, services, and activities are most needed in Elk Grove. City staff will provide technical assistance at the workshop including an overview of the eligibility requirements and application process. CDBG and CSG grant applications are due on February 26.

For assistance or more information about the CDBG and CSG grants, contact Housing and Public Services Manager Sarah Bontrager at 627-3209 or [email protected].

The City will also continue its Event Sponsorship Grant (ESG) Program. This program provides cash and in-kind services to events hosted in Elk Grove. Nonprofit organizations with events scheduled between July 1, 2018 and June 30, 2019 are encouraged to apply. ESG applications must be submitted by March 4. For questions, contact the City’s Community Events & Projects Coordinator, Jodie Moreno, at (916) 478-3632 or [email protected].

Applications for all grant programs will be accepted exclusively through the City’s online application process. Amounts awarded for FY 2018-19 are subject to City Council approval through the annual budget process.
