Helping families re-establish their roots and transition to a place that they can call home is the objective behind the opening of the City’s second transitional housing project.  City leaders in partnership with Elk Grove HART (Homeless Assistance Resource Team) and Sacramento Self-Help Housing celebrated the opening of the Meadow House today in east Elk Grove with a ribbon cutting ceremony and tours of the home.

The Meadow House includes seven bedrooms, four bathrooms, and approximately 2,800 square feet of living space.  The property is expected to serve primarily family households who are temporarily homeless and in need of six to twelve months of assistance.  The location is in close proximity to public transportation and shopping.

“When residents move in in September, they will find a safe, welcoming place to call home thanks to the work of volunteers who painted the interior, installed plank flooring in all seven bedrooms, and spent countless hours collecting, cleaning, and organizing furniture and household supplies,” said Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis.

The Meadow House was made possible through a collaboration between public, private, and faith-based organizations.  Sacramento Self-Help Housing will own and manage the house and provide case management services to its residents.  Elk Grove HART (Homeless Assistance Resource Team) has provided volunteers to remodel Meadow House, collected donations that furnished the home, raised funds for its operation and will provide mentoring to its residents.

Several businesses and organizations provided donations supporting the project.  Special thanks are extended to the following donors:
