Press Release - Elk Grove Hosts Fitness Festival April 26

Posted: 04/23/2015

Elk Grove, Calif. — Ready, set, GO to the Elk Grove’s health and fitness festival on Sunday, April 26 on Longleaf Drive located between Big Horn Boulevard and Laguna Springs Drive in Elk Grove.  The City of Elk Grove and Kaiser Permanente present GO Fest— kicking off “May is Bike Month” and promoting active, healthy living for all ages.

GO Fest kicks off at 9 a.m. with GO Run, a 3-mile fun run that includes 5 Thrive cross-training stations, followed at 11 a.m. by “GO Ride,” a 12-mile bike cruise.  The street fair experience continues until 3 p.m. with free extreme sports attractions including the region’s longest mobile zip line, family entertainment and vendors promoting programs, services, and products that encourage a healthy lifestyle.

All that activity allows for a little cheating and food vendors and nearby restaurants like Leatherby’s and Five Guys Burgers provide a “cheat meal zone” for food that should be enjoyed in moderation.

Ride, walk or stroll to GO Fest.  As the kick off to Elk Grove’s observance of “May is Bike Month”, complimentary bike valet service will be offered by the Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (SABA), in front of the California Correctional Health Care Services building on Longleaf Drive.

For those driving in the area on Sunday morning, the City has released the following traffic advisory:

  • Longleaf Drive will be closed from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. for GO Fest.
    • Please use Laguna Boulevard or Elk Grove Blvd are alternative routes.
  • Laguna Springs Drive will be closed for GO Run between 9-11 a.m.
    • Use Big Horn Blvd. as an alternate north/south route
  • Big Horn Blvd. will be temporarily closed for GO Ride at 11:00 a.m.
    • Use Laguna Springs Drive as an alternate north/south route between 11-11:30 a.m.

Event parking is available at the California Correctional Health Care Services lots off Laguna Springs Drive and Big Horn Boulevard.

GO Fest is presented by the City of Elk Grove, Kaiser Permanente, May is Bike Month, The Running Zone, Moms in Motion, Pappas Investments, Elk Grove Strength and Conditioning, Cosumnes CSD, Ardent Magazine, Encore Dance Studio, Bravo’s Soup and Sandwich Shoppe, and NOW 100.5.
