Pet Redemption Process

Lost pets can be redeemed Tuesday – Sunday, 12 noon -5:30pm in person at the Shelter. 

Please bring the following:

  • Valid Photo Identification (Driver’s license, California ID, Military ID, etc.) Person redeeming must be 18 years of age or older. Animals will not be released to a minor.
  • Proof of ownership, such as microchip verification, vet records, adoption contract, or photos 
  • Current Rabies Vaccination Certificate, if pet is not current on their rabies vaccine, we will vaccinate for an additional $5
  • Fees, Impound fees are waived on 1st impound of licensed and microchipped pets

In the event the owner of an impounded pet is unable to redeem in person they can appoint someone to redeem on their behalf. The owner of the pet will need to fill out the 2nd party release form and include copies of ID for both parties.  

Impound Fees (Does not include ER vet fees): Unaltered*
1st impound $40 +$35
2nd impound $80 +$50
3rd and each additional impound $160 +$100

*All unaltered animals will be subject to additional fees per California Food and Agriculture code sections 30804.7 and 31751.7. Unaltered pets are subject to mandatory spay/neuter on the 2nd impound per Elk Grove Municipal Code. 

Additional Fees:    
Daily Boarding $10 per night  
Intake Vaccines $15 dogs / $10 cats  
Rabies Vaccine $5  
License Fees $15 altered / $50 unaltered  Seniors- Free/ $25

All impounded pets are required to be microchipped at the time of redemption. EGAS provides this service free of charge.
