City of Elk Grove Accepting Applications for Youth Commission
The City of Elk Grove is seeking applications to fill ten (10) positions on the Youth Commission.
Qualifications:
At time of appointment each voting member and alternate shall: (1) be no less than thirteen (13) years of age and no more than eighteen (18) years of age; (2) a student in grades 7 through 12, in an approved education program for middle school or high school students; and (3) a resident of the city or its sphere of influence, at the time of application for appointment and continuously thereafter.
Specific Tasks or Objectives:
Develop and maintain a three (3) year action plan outlining areas for study by the commission; Review issues relating to programs and services for children and youth; Identify and recommend priorities among programs and services for children and youth; Create a forum for discussion with children, youth and their families; Advocate for services and programs for children and youth; Make recommendations for programs, policies, and necessary legislation to promote the health and well-being of children, youth and their families; Work with the public and private sectors to bring forth the concerns of children and youth as well as evaluate programming that will enhance the development of children and youth; Develop a communication network to disseminate information about services to children and youth; Submit a quarterly report to the City Council and meet with respective Council Member once a month.
Appointment and Term:
Each member of the City Council shall appoint two members to the commission from their district. One will be a voting member and one will be an alternate. Members of the commission shall serve for a two-year term.
APPLICATIONS: A Fact Sheet and application are available at the Office of the City Clerk, 8380 Laguna Palms Way, Suite 200, Elk Grove, California 95758 and are posted on the City’s website at www.elkgrovecity.org. Applications may be mailed or hand-delivered to the City Clerk’s Office.
Deadline to submit applications is November 21, 2008 or until such time as sufficient applications have been received.
