Online Bill Paying through your Personal Bank
If you use your own personal bank’s online bill paying system, please be aware of the following:
The City of Elk Grove's Utility Billing system uses an account number which is separated into two distinct segments: the Customer ID and the Location ID. The Customer ID is assigned to a specific customer and is attached to each property owned by that customer. The Location ID is created and assigned to each separate parcel within the city limits. The Location ID is used throughout the City in other departments and is not exclusive to the Utility Billing Division. It is the combination of these two numbers (with the dash) that creates the Utility account number. Each number can range from 3 to 9 digits long, thus the location of the dash becomes extremely important.
In an effort to help our customer’s payments reach us more promptly, we have worked with the banks to set up electronic transfers for personal banking customers who submit their payments in the required format. This eliminates the need for your bank to submit a paper check to us. However, if the account number is not in the necessary format, the online bill pay vendor must print out a check and mail it to us. The Utility Billing Division must then research the name and number listed to determine what the correct Customer ID and Location ID combination should be. This takes extra time and can add a number of days to the processing of that payment.
Please include the following in your Home Banking Payment:
1) |
The full account number with the HYPHEN |
2) |
The correct payment address (this changed on your March Utility Bill) |
3) |
Allow 10 days to reach us in case there are any errors. |
