Public Affairs Division
The City of Elk Grove is committed to communicating timely, accurate and relevant news and information to our customers – residents and businesses, prospective job creators, community groups, key policy decision makers, and the media.
The Public Affairs Division is responsible for media relations, the citywide newsletter, the City of Elk Grove website and community calendar, advertising, marketing, graphic design, public and community relations, community outreach and public meetings. Additionally, the Division organizes all City special events and festivals, groundbreakings and grand openings for city projects, and provides marketing and public information support to all city departments and programs.
The Public Affairs Division comprises three staff members, including the public affairs manager, community events and projects coordinator and graphic designer.

Public Affairs Manager
As manager of the City of Elk Grove’s public affairs division, Christine’s responsibilities include overseeing the city’s award-winning comprehensive communications program, including media relations, community engagement, branding, strategic planning and emergency/crisis communications. Christine serves as the staff liaison for the City of Elk Grove’s Multicultural Committee and Elk Grove's shop local program,"Think, Shop, Live Elk Grove."
Prior to joining the City of Elk Grove in 2006, Christine previously worked at two leading Sacramento area public relations agencies, and was responsible for managing local and statewide PR and marketing programs. Christine’s career began in journalism. Christine was previously an assignment editor at KTXL Fox 40 and reporter at the Sacramento News & Review.
Christine enjoys giving back to her profession, and currently serves as the northern California director at large for the California Association of Public Information Officials, and previously served as the organization’s secretary. Christine is past-president of the International Association of Business Communicators. Her work has received more than 45 awards from the Sacramento Public Relations Association, California Association of Public Information Officials, International Association of Business Communicators and Sacramento Ad Club. She presents regularly to statewide professional associations about public information and social media techniques and best practices.
Christine holds a B.A. in Communication Studies from California State University, Sacramento and earned an accreditation in public relations (APR) from the Public Relations Society of America, Universal Accreditation Board.
Community Events & Projects Coordinator
Kristyn’s credentials include more than 20 years of experience in state and local government providing communications, marketing, event planning and project management. Kristyn comes to the city by way of Cosumnes Community Services District (CSD) where she served as the public information officer for 10 years and the recreation supervisor in the special events office for 5 years. Kristyn’s previous events work has received numerous honors for production, marketing, and economic impact from local and statewide organizations. Kristyn’s responsibilities include the production of city events such as the Salute to the Red, White & Blue, Multicultural Festival and Big Truck Day, event coordination support for City of Elk Grove committees, and management of the city’s event sponsorship grant program and event permitting process. Kristyn is a UC Davis graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science-Public Service.
Kristyn and her family have resided in Elk Grove since 1996 and her two teenage sons attend Elk Grove schools.
Lupe Murrietta joined the City of Elk Grove in October of 2012 with more than 17 years of experience in the fields of design, advertising, photography and art direction. As the graphic designer for the city she is responsible for providing graphic design services that cross all departments of the city.
Lupe began her career at the Raley's Corporate Office where she was hired as a production artist and moved her way through the department over 12 years. From production artist to designer and photographer, Lupe shared many responsibilities throughout the advertising department. She was instrumental in development of the in-house food magazine Something Extra. She was eventually promoted to manager and led a team of 11 staff members, including designers, photographers and food stylists. Prior to joining the City of Elk Grove, Lupe worked at an advertising agency as a Senior Art Director. She was responsible for creating branding, identity and retail campaigns for statewide and national clients. She is a graduate from U.C. Davis with a degree in Studio Art.
