Elk Grove Library

A division of the Sacramento Public Library, the Elk Grove Library, located at 8900 Elk Grove Blvd., offers residents cutting edge technology and a variety of programs and services designed to meet the needs of Elk Grove book lovers and Internet surfers alike.

The 13,785-square-foot, city-owned, two-story building includes a group study room, a teen space, a community meeting room with an 80-seat capacity, 52 public-access computers, and a collection of thousands of books, periodicals, DVDs, CDs, and other materials. The branch also features a new electronic system that displays RFID technology to speed the return processing of checked-out books and other materials. The library also features the City of Elk Grove's first commissioned piece of artwork called Books and Ideas. This piece is made out of architectural glass and was commissioned by Arthur Stern of Arthur Stern Studios.

The Elk Grove Library was established in October 1908 as the first county "free library" in California. The branch has been housed in several Elk Grove locations, during the past 100 years, until its current 8900 Elk Grove Boulevard location which opened December 6, 2008.

The library is located at the gateway to Old Town Elk Grove and is surrounded by several elementary schools and Elk Grove High School, all within walking distance.

Franklin Community Library

The Franklin Community Library serves the students of Franklin High School and Toby Johnson Middle School as well as the general public. With a friendly and knowledgeable staff, the library offers fun programs, electronic resources, computers for public use, free Wi-Fi, and of course books, music, and movies. It also offers many books and special materials to enhance classroom learning, plus activities and services similar to those in other public library branches: preschool story times and programs for school age children and teens are offered; special adult programs and workshops are scheduled at various times during the year.

Thanks to a partnership with the Elk Grove Unified School District, the jointly managed facility has allowed for extended hours of service and a broader range of materials than wouldn't otherwise be possible. The library is open more than 60 hours per week to serve both the students and the larger community and has a summer/holiday schedule of over 30 open hours.

They work to provide programs and workshops and to promote use of the library throughout the community.

The Franklin Community Library opened in September of 2002.
