What's New in Elk Grove
City of Elk Grove Accepting Applications for Charter Commission
The City of Elk Grove is seeking applications to fill seven (7) positions on the Elk Grove City Charter Commission.
Qualifications Each member of the Commission must be at least 18 years of age, reside in the City of Elk Grove, and be registered to vote. A member may not be an officer or employee of the City.
Specific Tasks or Objectives
- Draft a charter for consideration by the City Council for presentation to the voters of the City of Elk Grove at the November 2010 General Election. The Charter Commission shall address, at a minimum, the following subjects:
a. Selection of the Mayor
b. Number of Council Districts
c. Form of governance: strong mayor v. Council/Manager
d. Bidding of Public Work projects
e. Availability of Financing Mechanisms
f. Campaign Finance - Create and participate in community outreach in the creation and election issues on a charter.
Appointment and Term Each member of the City Council will appoint one member to the Commission. Commission members are not required to live in the district represented by the appointing Council Member. The remaining two members will be appointed “at large” by a majority vote of the City Council and may be removed by a majority vote of the City Council. Each Charter Commission member shall serve until November 2010.
APPLICATIONS: A Fact Sheet and application are available at the Office of the City Clerk, 8380 Laguna Palms Way, Suite 200, Elk Grove, California 95758 and are posted on the City’s website at www.elkgrovecity.org. Applications may be mailed or hand-delivered to the City Clerk’s Office.
Deadline to submit applications is May 16, 2008 or until such time as sufficient applications have been received.
