The ordinance imposing a temporary moratorium on evictions in the City of Elk Grove expired May 31, 2020 and was not extended by City Council. Unfortunately, there are no current protections for commercial tenants at the local level.

In August of 2020, the Legislature passed, and the Governor signed, AB 3088 – The Tenant, Homeowner, and Small Landlord Relief and Stabilization Act of 2020 – providing some financial residential eviction protection through February 2, 2021. The Tenant, Homeowner and Small Landlord Relief and Stabilization Act (Act) of 2020 provides some relief. The Act applies to homeowners and landlords with four (4) or fewer properties, whether those properties are owner-occupied or not, and who have had difficulty making mortgage payments because of COVID-19. The City has set aside around $350,000 to assist low-income residential renters with paying a limited amount of back rent. The program guidelines are under development and funding is expected to be available in early 2021. Additional funding may be available through the federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program. Locally, that program will be administered by Sacramento County and/or the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency. Please watch the City’s website and social media for announcements about rental assistance.
Utility agencies separate from the City set their own policies: SMUD will not disconnect your power due to non-payment through April 30, 2021. For more information visit smud.com.
PG&E will not shutoff service for non-payment for residential and small commercial customers through April 16, 2021. For more information visit pge.com.
Elk Grove Water District will not shutoff service for non-payment; is waiving late payment penalties, door tag fees, over the phone payment fees; and providing flexible payment options. For more information visit egwd.org.
