Project Purpose and Overview
This is a joint project between City of Elk Grove and Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD). The City will design and construct new sidewalk along the east side of Elk Grove Florin Road from Castle Park Drive to south of Parkside Drive. This also includes added or enhanced pedestrian crossings of Elk Grove Florin Road to connect to the existing path system within Elk Grove Park. A new flashing crossing light will be installed at Lismore Drive. After completion of construction, EGUSD will implement a 2-year program to encourage pedestrian and bicycle use of the new improvements.
A video detection system will be installed to replace the existing wired loops in the pavement that are failing due to pavement deterioration. This video detection system is cost effective and allows for future remote electronic adjustments in locations of vehicle and bicycle detection zones. It is a reliable way to easily detect all types of user on the road, whether vehicles, pedestrians, and/or bicyclists.

Funding
The project work is funded by a Cycle 3 Active Transportation Program (ATP) Grant using SB1 funds as well as local funds. The ATP grant funds were used for the Project Approval and Environmental Document phase (CEQA). ATP grant funds will also be used for the Construction and follow-up 2-year EGUSD program, to encourage more pedestrian and bicyclist use.
