Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly, members of the Elk Grove City Council, and the community will celebrate the start of construction on Elk Grove’s next major gathering space with a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, March 20 at 4:30 pm (rain or shine) at the civic center property located at the corner of Civic Center Drive and Big Horn Blvd.

Construction of the City’s Aquatic Center is currently under way and scheduled to open in late summer 2018. Tuesday’s groundbreaking will mark the start of construction on the 32,187 square foot community center that will feature a new space for the Senior Center of Elk Grove, the city’s first Veterans Hall, a café, and a main hall capable of accommodating celebrations of up to 500 guests.

The Community Center, Aquatics Center, and the outdoor event space connecting these facilities referred to as the commons, are all part of the Phase 1 amenities planned at the civic center property. The facilities are expected to serve residents of the Laguna Ridge neighborhood and provide a city-wide and regional resource for events, competitions, and social gatherings.

The Council awarded the community center project to Bobo Construction on February 14, 2018. The total estimated cost of all Phase 1 improvements is $51 million. The project is funded primarily through Community Facilities District (CFD) and Park Fee funds. Construction of the community center is scheduled for completion in summer 2019, barring delays.

The groundbreaking celebration is open to the public and all are invited to attend. For more information about the project, including project renderings, visit the City’s website at http://www.elkgrovecity.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=109669&pageId=6473376.
