Elk Grove, CA – In a step that could bring increased retail options, jobs, and a big boost in sales tax revenues, Elk Grove City officials announced today that design plans have been submitted for the construction of a Costco Wholesale warehouse store at Elk Grove Boulevard and Civic Center Drive just east of Bruceville Road.

 “Costco would be a solid addition to the Elk Grove retail market,” said Mayor Gary Davis.  “Their presence would provide good local jobs and the opportunity to keep more of our residents’ hard earned dollars in the Elk Grove economy.  We are excited that they appear to be coming to Elk Grove and look forward to reviewing their application.” 

Costco Wholesale is a multi-billion dollar global retailer with warehouse club operations in eight countries.  The City estimates that an Elk Grove Costco warehouse and gas station could employ up to 200 full-time employees and provide as much as $800,000 a year in additional sales tax revenue for the City.

“Elk Grove is a smart investment for Costco,” said the City’s Economic Development Director, Darrell Doan.  “Our residents are demanding more and higher quality retail options and this project fills both of those needs.  With our population expected to exceed 200,000 residents within the next ten years, and the brand recognition of a Costco, this project sends a strong message to the marketplace that Elk Grove is ready for investment.”

Plans for a store that’s roughly 150,000 square feet with a 24 pump fuel facility with the possibility of expansion to 30 fuel pumps were submitted.  The project would be constructed on 17 acres presently zoned to allow warehouse retail.  The project will be located at the southeast corner of Elk Grove Boulevard and Bruceville Road on land that is owned by Pappas Investments.  The site is approximately 6 miles from Costco’s South Sacramento warehouse.

Review has begun by the City and other agencies.  The project is subject to discretionary conditional use permit and design review approvals by the Planning Commission; it is to reach the Planning Commission for public hearing in early 2016.
