Go Fund Me Campaign Launched to Raise $15,000 by January 15

The giving season is upon us and the City of Elk Grove and the Laguna Sunrise Rotary Club urge residents to consider giving the gift of shelter to families in need in Elk Grove’s sister city, Concepción de Ataco in El Salvador.

Rotary members visited the Elk Grove City Council meeting on November 18 to share news of the campaign aimed at raising funds to construct homes for families displaced by a large storm.

“This international project has been one of the Rotary’s marquee projects for the more than four years,” said Rotary Club Foundation President, Angela Spease. “In the spirit of international friendship we hope that the community rallies behind this fundraiser campaign.”

Elk Grove and Concepción de Ataco became sister cities in 2011. Concepción de Ataco is a municipality and city within the department Ahuachapán, El Salvador. It has a population of nearly 22,000 residents. The small town has basic services and its economy is based in agricultural and some tourism.

“Rotary has built 56 homes there,” said Rotary Club representative Oscar O’con. “A private donor has provided a piece of land that would accommodate ten additional homes.”

The price to construct a home in Concepción de Ataco is $1,500. The City and Rotary have set a goal of raising $15,000 by January 15 to allow for construction in early 2016.
