Residents Sought to fill Vacancies on Multicultural and Historic Preservation Committees

Elk Grove residents with a passion for history or a dedication to cultural diversity are encouraged to apply for vacancies on two of the City’s standing committees, the Multicultural Committee and the Historic Preservation Committee.

The City seeks residents who have demonstrated special interests, competence, experience, or knowledge in historic preservation for two vacancies on the Historic Preservation Committee.  This Committee maintains and updates a local historic resource inventory for all historic resources within the City, develops and reviews a comprehensive local historic preservation plan, reviews and provides recommendations on development applications and certificates within the historic district, and advocates for the City with other agencies and to the public on the preservation of the City’s historic resources.  Committee members are appointed to two-year terms.  Monthly meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers.

The City’s Multicultural Committee also has a vacancy.  Members of this Committee are responsible for the planning of the City’s annual Multicultural Festival, providing guidance to the City Council about multicultural issues, and advising the City on best practices for conducting outreach and public awareness to various ethnic communities and faith based-organizations in Elk Grove.  Regular monthly meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month beginning at 6:00 pm in Council Chambers.

Applicants for either Committee must be at least 18 years old and registered voters who reside in Elk Grove.  Positions on these committees are voluntary and no compensation is provided.  Applications are available on the City’s web site at www.elkgrovecity.org or within the City Clerk’s Office located at 8401 Laguna Palms Way.  Applications received on or before May 6 will be considered for appointment by the Mayor, with approval by the City Council.

For more information on the details about the Historic Preservation Committee contact Gerald Park at (916) 478-3671 or gpark@elkgrovecity.org.  Inquiries regarding the Multicultural Committee can be directed to Kristyn Nelson at (916) 478-2206 or knelson@elkgrovecity.org.
