Diversity & Inclusion

A city welcome to all header

The City of Elk Grove is a diverse and vibrant community committed to making Elk Grove welcome to all. In 2018, the City commissioned a Diversity Audit of City government that resulted in the creation of an Inclusion Strategy. These documents are a roadmap designed to establish Elk Grove as a national leader in diversity and inclusion.

What's Next?

The City established an internal Diversity and Inclusion Team made up of 15 staff members that are working towards establishing an inclusive City government. Staff is systematically reviewing and implementing various elements of the Inclusion Strategy that they believe best fit the needs of the City.

These are some of the current initiatives we are implementing in early 2019 as a result of the Inclusion Strategy:

  • Holding focus groups and citywide trainings on diversity and inclusion related topics;
  • Creating our citywide employee focused Mission, Vision, and Values Statements;
  • Utilizing the City’s social media outlets in more diverse and inclusive ways; follow us on social media to view the posts throughout the year;
  • Establishing a new City employee “Buddy” program to encourage new and existing staff to get to know each other better;
  • Nine staff members are going through a program with other local entities called the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) to ensure race forward discussion and policies;
